Less waste, zero waste and a sustainable lifestyle
Less waste, zero waste – these are slogans that constantly appear around us in various social media or even in company communication. More and more people are choosing to reduce the amount of waste they produce in order to contribute less to environmental pollution. And no wonder. In Poland, each of us produces almost 350 kg of garbage annually. The food waste figures are even more terrifying. because almost 20% of the food produced goes straight to the bin all over the world.
You could say that such movements as less waste or zero waste are a way of life that our grandmothers and our grandparents mastered to perfection. They are about reducing waste, not wasting, and using what we already have.
Does zero waste mean zero waste?
Zero waste is a very radical approach to wasting and generating waste. The goal of this idea is to eliminate rubbish that has a detrimental effect on the environment. An approach where we completely get rid of the waste of our daily lives is very difficult to implement, or even impossible to fully implement for most of us.
There are, however, a few ways that are completely consistent with this idea and require little effort:
- refuse if you don’t need anything
- reuse what you already have
- fix what broke
- compost organic waste
As you can see, you don’t have to drop everything right away to become a homeless vegan. Zero waste is, to a greater extent, a model goal of sustainable living that we should strive for.
Less waste, or how to find a solution for yourself
The definition of less waste is more flexible. It means that we just try to waste less and do it wherever possible.
Less waste also means striving for the products we buy to be reusable. Because less waste starts with less and more responsible consumption.
If we use the planet’s resources ethically and ecologically here and now, the next generations have a chance to survive.
Less waste everyday
The idea of less waste instead of zero waste is less complicated to implement in everyday life and facilitates the entire change process. There are many possibilities, smaller and larger, that we can immediately bring into our lives.
To begin with, it is worth starting by limiting unnecessary purchases. You can also avoid products in disposable plastic packaging and choose reusable ones, such as those made of glass. A very easy way to reduce plastic rubbish is to carry a cloth shopping bag with you anytime and anywhere. Another popular solution is to drink tap water or filter jugs. As you may have read other articles on our blog, you know that veganism is a good way to reduce your negative impact on the planet and you don’t need to completely change your diet right away, you can start by making one all-vegetable meal.
Over time, these and other choices will become completely natural to you, and you will certainly see other options to reduce waste.
